Aircrew of 49 Squadron sit with their Handley Page Hampden at RAF Scampton watching curiously as their replacement aircraft arrive in April, 1942. Within two months the ill-fated Avro Manchester was replaced by the Lancaster on which 49 Squadron would use courageously for the rest of the Second World War.
